Anthony "Akoni" Akana passed away at 8:30 pm on March 25, 2011 at his family home near Waialae on O'ahu. Akoni was remembered in a touching article published by the Maui News on March 29th that recalled his legacy as the founding executive director of the Friends of Moku'ula — a nonprofit organization whose vision is to restore Moku'ula, a 17-acre site near Lahaina to prominence as the former capital of the Hawaiian kingdom.

Eliza Kahelelani Kahale Kamelamela Poaipuni, 55, of Hoolehua, Molokai, died in Molokai General Hospital, Kaunakakai. She was born in Honolulu. She is survived by daughters Alohalani, Hauoli, Pomaikai and Kahelelani; mother May Kamelamela; brothers Mallory and Derrick Kamelamela; and sisters Danette “Sis” Cuello-Kamelamela, Jacque Hiro, Karen J. McMichael and Rosemary Vaivao. Services for Eliza were held on March 25th at Kalanianaole Hall, Kalamaula, Molokai.
President and Headmaster Dr. Michael Chun Announces Retirement

President and Headmaster Dr. Michael Chun informed CEO Dee Jay Mailer and campus leadership of his decision to retire at the end of the 2011--2012 school year after twenty four years of service. He is the longest serving president in the history of Kamehameha Schools. Dr. Chun will continue to lead the Kapalama Campus as KS completes the search for his replacement.
