Eliza Kahelelani Kahale Kamelamela Poaipuni, 55, of Hoolehua, Molokai, died in Molokai General Hospital, Kaunakakai. She was born in Honolulu. She is survived by daughters Alohalani, Hauoli, Pomaikai and Kahelelani; mother May Kamelamela; brothers Mallory and Derrick Kamelamela; and sisters Danette “Sis” Cuello-Kamelamela, Jacque Hiro, Karen J. McMichael and Rosemary Vaivao. Services for Eliza were held on March 25th at Kalanianaole Hall, Kalamaula, Molokai.

Aloha kakou — I am Reiko Fukino, alumni, class of 1975. I am a single mother of four children. In 1989 I took a leap of faith and decided to support my family by becoming a professional singer and musician. When I began to perform I met Wendell Warrington, class of 1974. He had already established himself as a professional musician and entertainer on Maui.

Jean Ileialoha Keale Beniamina was a true Hawaiian, according to longtime friend Charles K. Kaupu. She took care of her community and ensured educational opportunities were available to fellow Niihauans. "She was a leader, a great leader at that," Kaupu said.m Beniamina, a Hawaiian language advocate, educator and award-winning composer, died Saturday at her Lihue home. She was 54.
